Dr. Marcus Bethel
Dr. Marcus Bethel is a distinguished physician whose career has made a lasting impact on healthcare in The Bahamas. He earned both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and completed his internship at Toronto General Hospital. He later pursued specialty training in Internal Medicine at the internationally renowned Mayo Clinic and Mayo Graduate School in Rochester, Minnesota. He is an American Board–certified specialist in Internal Medicine, reflecting his commitment to excellence and rigorous medical standards.
In 1975, Dr. Bethel returned home to Freeport to begin private practice at the Antoni Clinic, bringing advanced training and global experience back to his community. In 1978, he acquired Lucayan Medical Centre, where he continues to serve as Consultant Internist and Administrator. Under his leadership, the Centre has grown into a trusted institution, providing comprehensive medical services and playing a vital role in the health and well being of the region.
Dr. Bethel’s dedication extends beyond medicine. He served as a Senator in The Bahamas from 1997 to 2007 and as Minister of Health and Environment from 2002 to 2006, helping shape national health policy and environmental initiatives.
